The home goods and decor industry follows fashion trends just as quickly as clothing retailers, selling more than $40 billion of merchandise every year. To find the gems in the deluge of products, The New York Times has asked 30 interior designers and architects to select some of their favorites.

The slideshow of 10 items creates a 'lookbook' of beautiful, unique, and trendsetting items of the year.

Some of the best items include handmade ceramic sinks from DeVOL Kitchens, Tiempo field tile from Ann Sacks ("Haven't we all seen enough shiny all-white marble kitchens and baths," the designer suggests), and Kohler's sleek Veil toilet.
