It's no coincidence that more than three in 10 young people, ages 18 through 34, live with their parents. Many of them wouldn't know where their next dime will come from if the folks didn't put them up and put up with them.

MarketWatch staffer Jillian Berman reports that more than half of millennials (nearly 52%) have less than $1,000 in savings, according to a recent survey from, a personal finance site. Still, millennials are not special in the fact that they don't save, despite their distinction, perhaps, for not earning. Berman writes:

About 62% of Americans overall have less than $1,000 in savings, a survey from personal finance found earlier this year.
