RealtyTrac's Jennifer Von Pohlmann shares a poster that maps how the college towns represented by the teams that made this year's March Madness Sweet 16 stack up to the health of their real estate markets.
To calculate the Sweet 16, RealtyTrac looked at unemployment rates, and advanced the town with the lowest rate. For the next round, the Elite 8, towns were compared according to monthly rental affordability. In the Final Four, a calculated, Natural Disaster Score determined the championship contenders.
The Championship match-up considers the percent of homeowners who are equity rich. Loan to value ratio of 50% or lower, meaning the homeowner had at least 50% equity. The town with the highest percentage of Equity Rich homeowners won.
