Jon Hardy, Lennar Charlotte division president, says sales at the company’s 55-plus age-restricted community in Lancaster County, S.C., “are very brisk” so far, although he didn’t disclose any numbers, reports Charlotte Business Journal staffer Ken Elkins.

The community, Tree Tops, will feature 800 homes when completed, located south of Charlotte, N.C. Currently 29 homes are under construction on the 613-acre site and a total of 275 lots have been drawn out on the initial phases. Home closings will begin in August with the first owners moving into their new Lennar homes later that month.

South Carolina taxes are a huge draw for potential buyers. Those low taxes and the number of young people being drawn into the Charlotte area combine to make the region a magnet for grandparents as well, Hardy says. Despite already having more than 9,000 homes in 55-plus communities, the Charlotte region isn’t slowing down, he adds.

“We are nowhere near the end,” Hardy says.
