Developer FivePoint is bringing to life an ambitious master-planned community in Irvine, Calif.

Paul Hodgins, staffer at The Orange County (Calif.) Register, takes readers inside the Great Park Neighborhoods, a 2,100-acre plan that will include more than 9,500 residences by 10 homebuilders, 138 acres of open space and trails, and 61 acres of parkland linked by a system of greenbelts.

But it’s not just an endless sea of houses and pocket parks. FivePoint calls it “a holistic mix of residential, commercial, educational and recreational facilities," writes Hodgins, who looks at how the development is changing the concept of a master-planned community.
