The Supreme Court was deadocked when it come to deciding on the legality of President Obama's Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). Redfin staffer Lorraine Woellert takes a look at the order which would extend to millions of immigrant parents of U.S. citizens as well as what it would mean to the housing industry.
The order had the potential to give these immigrants economic help and lend them a hand toward home ownership. In terms of the housing industry, one-fifth of construction workers are foreign born and immigrants accounted for more than a third of household growth in the past decade:
“Going forward, as the millennials replace the gen-Xers among households in their 30s and 40s, immigrants will fuel additional need for housing, adding to the strong demand expected from what already is the largest, most diverse generation in history,” Harvard researchers wrote.
