Land Tejas Cos. has broken ground on a new residential community outside Houston, the latest step in its plans to build Balmoral, a 580-acre residential community, reports Houston Business Journal staffer Paul Takahashi.
The Houston developer has owned 213 acres on site for about a decade and acquired an additional 248 acres in April. Land Tejas plans to combine the two tracts of land and acquire two more adjacent parcels to create Balmoral. Jennifer Keller, president and COO of Land Tejas, says the company has been planning this community for about a decade.
Plans call for 1,700 homes in Balmoral, whose name was inspired by Balmoral Castle, the Queen of England’s favorite holiday home in Scotland. The new community will feature traditional Texas-style homes starting in price from the low $200,000s.
Five home builders are planned for the first phase of 246 homes. Three of the builders have been selected, but have not be announced yet. The first home lots are on track to be delivered this spring, and the full builder lineup is expected to be announced this fall, Keller said.
Balmoral will feature both gated, nongated and lakeside neighborhoods, as well as about 100 acres of amenities, lakes, trails and parks. A grand opening for the model homes is expected in the summer of 2017; the first amenities are expected to be finished the following summer, Keller said.
