Some analysts think builders could break ground on far more homes than expected in 2016 as demand surges.
MarketWatch staffer Andrea Riquier reports on reasons for optimism around housing: while other sectors of the economy, like manufacturing, have been walloped by geopolitical shocks, the housing market is well-insulated against those currents. Riquier writes:
First-time buyers are being watched closely because they’ve been more reluctant to return to the housing market than in past cycles. They also represent new demand in the housing market.
First-timers made up 43% of all sales in the fourth quarter, D.R. Horton said, up from 40% in the same period a year ago.
