NAHB breakdown of analysis from the Economic Census.

Based on the recently released 2012 Economic Census data, new NAHB research shows that residential construction remains the industry of independent entrepreneurs.

National Association of Home Builders research analyst Natalia Siniavaskaia plows into the data from the Economic Census, extracting findings that four of every five home builders and specialty trade contractors in the United States is self-employed.

Taking the next step up, even such workers who are employed work mostly for small firms, as two-thirds of home builders and 75% of specialty trade contractors generating under $1 million annually in business.
