There may be a residential real estate downturn, but active adult communities may see some new home buyers soon.

Chicago Tribune writers are letting you know why active adult communities are becoming popular for home buyers, and the amenity features has a lot to do with it. These communities have various recreational facilities and organized activities. It also attracts home buyers because they are getting a newer home with lower maintenance. 

"We've seen home buyer activity pick up in the last three weeks," says Steve Atchison, president at Pulte Home Illinois, Schaumburg, which develops the Del Webb active adult communities. Atchison adds that home buyers who have been on the sidelines should consider that interest rates may rise in the near future making it more expensive to purchase a house. "There are signs the housing market is improving and now is the right time to buy," he says.
