The Harrisburg City Council has voted against annexing a 351-acre plot of land.

The Harrisburg City Council has voted 4-2 to deny an annexation request for 351 acres of land outside the city limits, which has been considered for development by DR Horton.

Harrisburg council member Ron Smith, who voted to deny the annexation, believes that the plot is too far away from established services to become part of the town yet. “I think overall, while this is not a bad plan, I don’t think Harrisburg needs to be that far out yet,” he said. “I would rather see us get there in time.”

If the property had been annexed and rezoned, DR Horton and ESP Associates would have planned to develop 458 home lots on the property for what would have been known as the Hickory Ridge Subdivision.
