Concord, N.C.-based Green Street Cottages has started building the first phase of 500 planned energy-efficient Craftsman-style homes for The Villages at Cramerton Mills, the residential segment of a mixed-use development by Bowman Development Group in Cramerton, N.C.

All of the Green Street Cottages homes at the Villages at Cramerton Mills will be certified zero-energy ready through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Homes program. All of the homes are 65% more energy efficient than a comparable home product, according to Nick Parker of Green Street Cottages, and an optional solar array, which could potentially offset all of the home’s energy consumption and costs, is also available to home buyers.

The first phase will include 64 single-family homes ranging in size from 1,800 to 3,500 square feet. All homes will include front porches, 10-foot ceilings, granite countertops, and Mitsubishi ductless heating and cooling systems.
