This past Sunday, a deadly twister hit the community of Duette, Fla., killing local couple Steven and Kate Wilson, and injuring their son and four grandchildren, Market Watch reports.
Another tornado touched down in Seista Key, Fla., in Sarasota County. Local TV reporters shared videos of the couple's home and the debris leftover from the aftermath via social media.
In the aftermath of the tornadoes, calmer but chilly weather has been moving into Central Florida, according to a Tampa Bay Tribune report. Tornadoes are not common in that area, where some residents are trying to stay positive after the severe weather.
“I’m amazed to see anybody got out of this alive,” Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube has been widely quoted as saying, regarding the destroyed mobile home belonging to the Wilson family.
The devastating tornadoes point to the need for resilient design in American communities, which can be ravaged in seconds at the hand of a natural disaster such as this one.
