Gallup's latest American satisfaction survey reveals that only 29% of Americans are satisfied with the direction of the country this month, the highest percentage measured in 2016 so far. Staffer Frank Newport reports this years satisfaction level is on par with the 28% and 27% averages from 2015 and 2009 respectively.

As usual, satisfaction differed among political parties with 51% of Democrats being satisfied, an increase, compared to 10% of Republicans, a decline. Whether these satisfaction levels will affect the upcoming election remains to be seen:

It is not totally clear what Americans' perceived satisfaction so far this year will mean for the presidential election. Much can happen between now and November, although history shows that the satisfaction readings in the first six months of the year are highly related to where satisfaction ends up for the year overall.
