Interactive patios and brainy doorbells aside, millennials hitting the market are looking for such features as a backyard vegetable garden. MarketWatch staffer Daniel Goldstein. reports on the influx of millennials planning to hit the market over the next two years and what they will be looking for in the homes they plan to buy.

In addition to their favorite eco-friendly features, millennials are also looking for smart doorbells with cameras and electronic exterior locks that can be accessed only with a code and remotely locked and unlocked via smartphone. Real-estate agent Mary Hutchinson further highlighted the environmental features they desired:

Hutchison said millennials are particularly eco-conscious when it comes to landscaping and outdoor improvements, adding rain barrels to trap storm water, planting only native species and grasses, and looking for ways to reduce watering needs.
