Hawaii's Kauai County will soon see more single-family homes and affordable housing, says Jenna Carpenter for The Garden Island. D.R. Horton is developing the Ho‘oluana at Kohea Loa neighborhood located on a 54-acre site near the intersections of Kuhio and Kapule highways in Hanamaulu, Hawaii.
The neighborhood will include 151 homes, with 40% offered as affordable housing. There will be a mix of three- to four-bedroom single-family homes (107), and duplexes (44). Prices will start in the high 400,000s for the single-family units.
The project, which is being completed in four phases, will eventually have 440 housing units with 40% affordable housing. The first phase of grading and infrastructure work has begun, and the home builder will begin constructing homes in 2017.
“As a local company focused on providing homes for local, working families, we are honored to be working on Kauai again,” said Mary Flood, senior vice president of sales for D.R. Horton, Hawaii. “The Hanamaulu area is conveniently located and is perfect for the home styles we are building, which accommodate extended-family living.”
