It's a matter of when, after all, not if, and it happens to the best of us. Death, that is.

Here, MarketWatch staffer Shawn Langlois taps into the ghoulishly brilliant visualization alchemy of Flowing Data's Nathan Yau. Yau, you see, has mapped Centers of Disease Control and Prevention data into an interactive calculator tool that lets each of us stare into the eyes of our eventual demise. Langlois writes:

“Each dot represents one of your simulated lives, and as each year passes, more of your simulated selves pass away,” Yau, who has a PHD in statistics from UCLA, explained. “Color corresponds to cause of death, and the bars on the right keep track of the cumulative percentages.”
