It’s not just the ranch style that’s seeing resurging interest. Often, single-story homes of various designs that hit the market are coveted, prompting bidding wars and selling close to or above asking prices, Kalfus writes.

Demographics drive the trend, as well as supply and demand.

A recent study on housing preferences released by the National Association of Home Builders showed about two-thirds of homebuyers – 64% – would prefer a single-story home, with millennials at 35%, Gen Xers at 49%, baby boomers at 75% and seniors at 88%.
