San Joaquin Valley Homes, a builder active in California’s Central Valley, has closed on its 500th home, just in time for the company’s third anniversary.

Founders Joseph Leal, Jim Robinson, and Randy Merrill celebrated their milestone by surprising their 500th homeowner, Jose Sanchez, with a new barbecue grill, a $500 Lowes gift card and a $500 check.

“I was expecting to walk in and pick up my keys, then I find out I’m the 500th buyer and they want to do something special for me,” Sanchez said. “I was excited. I’ve never won anything before. I’m thinking, this must be my lucky day!”

SJV Homes has worked on seven Central Valley subdivisions so far, with two more in the works.
