CNBC correspondent Mark Fahey looks at the findings of a  a recent paper by researchers in Johannesburg.

Amusing or not, the analysis has implications for housing and development, from household composition types, to design, to consumer demand for food, etc. Fahey writes:

Declines in male babies have been correlated with higher unemployment rates, and according to another recent paper, the ratio plummeted going into the Great Recession — suggesting that the M/F ratio functions as a lagging indicator of economic well-being.
