St. Lucie County's beaches and river front areas have garnered the attention of developers, with Hutchinson Island having three subdivisions and homes on single family lots under construction in the county. TCPalm staffer Keona Gardner takes a look at this and other developments popping up, a trend expected to continue due to a number of factors including the demand from buyers for cheaper water front property.

In addition to the price, buyers also like the uninterrupted view of the ocean, something they can't get in South Florida because the beach is sprinkled with high rise condos, Nelson said.

"Buyers like it here because of the laid-back, old Florida feel," Nelson said. "You have 21 miles of uninterrupted ocean view from Jetty Park to the Jensen Beach area. You can't find that in South Florida."
