The developer, Newport Banning Ranch LLC recently revealed new plans to construct 895 residential units, a 75-room boutique hotel, and 45,000 square feet of retail space on the Banning Ranch site. Megan Nicolai, The Orange County Register, reports on the the company's new development plans following an initial denial by the California Coastal Commission.
The new plan was submitted to the commission in November, and is up for consideration in January. The company is pleased with the commission's current input:
“We came out of that (meeting) extremely pleased that we were able to get the input from the commission,” Basye said. “What we heard was cleaning up this oil field in the near term is a good thing. ... We have been working almost around the clock to try to be responsive to that.”
