WalletHub's Richie Bernardo ranks over 300 U.S. cities and towns that have a combination of academic, social, and economic opportunities for college students. The ranking has be carried out based on 23 key metrics, such as the quality of higher education, crime rates, and cost of living.
The study limits the selection of cities and towns to those with a university or college population of over 7,500 students, and has categorized cities based on population sizes. Large cities, for example, are those with more than 300,000 residents, and small cities are with fewer than 125,000. Cities that fall in between are considered midsize cities.
The top 10 ranked cities include Ann Arbor, Mich., College State, Texas, Iowa City, Iowa, Provo, Utah, Gainesville, Fla., Pittsburgh, Pa., Atlanta, Ga., Austin, Texas, Cambridge, Mass., and Columbia, Mo.
