Friendswood Development Co. plans to open the last residential section in one of Houston’s oldest master-planned communities on October 8th, according to the Houston Chronicle. Kingwood’s Royal Brook section will add 1,100 new homes to northeast Houston across 510 acres, at prices ranging from $300,000 to more than $600,000.

Ashton Woods, Perry Homes and Village Builders have opened their home models for Royal Brook, while Drees Custom Homes and J. Patrick Homes are nearly finished with theirs.

Friendswood, which has been a division of Lennar Corp. since 2000, has been developing the 15,000-acre Kingwood community since the early 1970s. In recent years the developer has turned toward urban communities; it now plans to develop 300 homes in Houston’s core each year. “We’re not changing our stripes,” says Friendswood president John Hammond. “We’ll still predominantly be a suburban developer. But for the foreseeable future, the urban stuff will be very attractive.”
