Hired, an employment site, recently released a report that shows software engineers in the Bay Area are offered higher salaries than anywhere else. Quartz staffer Alice Truong reports on this report which also shows that those who worked in the Bay Area command higher premiums than local software engineers
For 2015, Bay Area engineers command $132,00 and in the 11 markets analyzed by Hired can command $7,000 to $17,000 more than locals:
In general, transplants—regardless of where they’re moving from—are typically offered higher salaries over locals when they relocate to new markets, according to Hired. But there is one exception: Those moving to the Bay Area from outside were offered an average of $128,000—3% less than local candidates.
