Staffer Stacey Higginbotham is the smart home tech beat maven over at Fortune, and she's promising a bevy of new devices and apps that bring kitchens of the future into the present.

But while we wait for smart ovens with artificial intelligence, or sensors embedded in our kitchens and algorithms that can tell us the right way to roast a turkey, a connected thermometer and kitchen scale with Bluetooth might be the next best thing to get us going. At the very least, some of these devices let us get out of the kitchen while they do the cooking for us.
