Some of the biggest cities in the world has issues with public transit, but now many of them are looking for new and better ideas.
Fast Company provides five takeaways that can create a better transit system, such as easier routes and transfers for commuters and rethinking traffic design. There are also some fast-growing cities that have added entertainment for commuters who have extended train rides. Safety is another important feature, and transits came up with the idea of creating protective screens to prevent falls on the train tracks, which has reduced suicides by 62%.
"It's easy to say these changes are mostly because the Seoul system is new, and could start fresh," The Regional Planning Association's Alex Marshall argues in an essay about the system. "But most of these amenities were added on to the existing system... They were retrofitted, and paid for by long-term leases on the advertisements over the doors themselves."
