The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis has reported that home builders in the nine-county Indianapolis area filed 5,778 single-family construction permits during 2016 – a 13% rise over the 5,118 filed over 2015.
This is the most single-family permits filed in one year since 2007, when Greater Indianapolis builders filed 7,326 permits just before the recession took hold. Permits fell to 4,566 the following year.
The last year also marks the fifth straight year of rising permits, but numbers are still low compared to the 15,054 permits filed in 2001.
Out of the nine counties, Hamilton County saw the most filings at 2,198, a 15% increase over 2015.
