September marks two important events on the home building industry’s calendar: opening of registration for the International Builders’ Show (IBS) and Associate Member Appreciation Month.
Associates, which make up about two-thirds of our total membership—are invaluable to the NAHB federation and an essential part of our proud history, tradition, and spirit. Among their ranks are skilled subcontractors, sales and marketing experts, architects, interior designers, title and settlement professionals, lawyers, people working in financial services and insurance, product suppliers and manufacturers, and many others who are essential to our industry.
Associate members also are essential to the NAHB federation, devoting countless volunteer hours to the association at the local, state, and national levels and strengthening our industry in the process.
In recognition of the loyalty and hard work of the tens of thousands of associates who volunteer their time and services to the federation, NAHB designates September as Associate Member Appreciation Month. During September—and all year long, for that matter—I urge all NAHB members to get to know one another better, learn about each others’ businesses, and to do business with other members whenever possible. Our federation is strong when individual members are strong, and doing business with other members is a great way to strengthen the NAHB.
Because associate members are such an integral part of our federation, the NAHB annually recognizes an Associate of the Year. We also recognize a builder or local entity that best exemplifies the motto, “It’s good business to do business with a member” through the BEAM (Builders Engaging Associate Members) Award. More information about both is available at www.NAHB.org/AwardPrograms. You need to hurry if you want to nominate someone for either award this year. The application deadline for Associate of the Year is Sept. 29; the deadline for the BEAM Award is Oct. 6.
September also marks the opening of registration for the 2015 IBS, which will be held Jan. 20–22 in Las Vegas. As you know, this is the best place to network, to learn what you need to know to keep your company on the leading edge of success, and to test out the latest building products, materials, and technologies. The NAHB offers special pricing in September, including a free expo pass for NAHB members and up to half off the full registration price.
The upcoming 2015 IBS again will be co-located with the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show during Design and Construction Week (DCW). The inaugural DCW in 2014 was hugely successful. Not only will DCW continue in 2015, but it also will include three partner events: the International Window Coverings Expo, the International Surface Event (floor coverings, stone and tile), and the Las Vegas Market (home decor, lighting, and more). IBS registrants can visit the exhibit floors of any of the five trade shows.
The NAHB is working hard to make sure that the 2015 IBS is the best ever, with product exhibits, education programs, networking events, and much more to help you advance your building practices and your business. I urge you to register now so you can take advantage of early pricing and start planning your 2015 IBS experience. Visit www.BuildersShow.com to register and learn more about the show.
