Way to go, Ohio. The newspaper in Columbus greeted with glee the news that the long-battered city was now among the top-10 real estate markets in the country.

The Columbus area landed in the Top 10 hottest housing markets in the nation during April, a sign that the nation's real-estate boom is making its way to the Midwest.

According to Realtor.com's monthly index, Columbus was No. 10, right behind a city in Michigan called Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor and Columbus were the only Midwest cities in the Top 10, which was dominated by California markets, led by No. 1 San Francisco.

The Top 20 hottest markets included three other Midwest cities: Lafayette and Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Sioux City, Iowa.
