As America grows more diverse, the single-parent family structure has been adopted by many who choose to raise children on their own. Today, more than one quarter--or 10 million-- of total U.S. households are headed by single-moms. WalletHub staffer Richie Bernardo hunts for cities that might be more suitable for single mothers.

To identify the best cities for single moms, Bernardo and his teammates probe into data in 150 most populated U.S. cities based on two key metrics: “Single Moms’ Economic & Social Well-Being” and “Child-Friendly Environment.” Criteria include median annual income for single moms, cost of babysitters, housing affordability for single moms, financial security for single moms, outdoor fun for kids, and access to parks.

The top 10 cities where WalletHub says single moms will thrive? Scottsdale, Ariz., Madison, Wis., Fremont, Calif., San Francisco, Calif., Seattle, Wash., Pembroke Pines, Fla., Irvine, Calif., Honolulu, Hawaii, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Overland Park, Kan.
