Which builders are ready for a bigger market share? Although DR Horton, Lennar, and Pulte combined outsold the rest of the top 10 from this year’s BUILDER 100 combined, smaller public builders show greater strength in year-over-year growth. Based on average percent growth from 2012 through 2014, a total of 11 public builders have averaged more than 25% increase in closings.

Leading the fastest-growing public builders over the last three years is the 2015 Builder of the Year, TRI Pointe Homes. More than doubling their number of closings between 2012 and 2013 and more than quadrupling closings between 2013 and 2014, TRI Pointe—which went public two years ago—has grown an average 397.07% in closings since 2012. The builder received an A- grade on the 2015 Public Builder Report Cards and experienced the third-highest revenue per employee among the public builders at $1.8 million.
