By Charles Wardell. When BUILDER surveyed providers and buyers of community intranets, we found that while fees for large master planned communities are fairly consistent, providers differ in how they slice costs, what they include, and whether they provide hosting. Resident Interactive in Atlanta (www.residentinteractive.com) charged the Brambleton development in suburban Washington a setup fee of “less than $40,000”; residents pay less than $10 in monthly maintenance for the hosted application. Jacksonville, Fla.-based NetNeighbor (www.netneighbor.net) charged Jacksonville’s Northampton community less than $100 per home, including the software and hardware needed for on-site hosting. Monthly fees are roughly $5. Valencia, Calif.-based ActiveQuest (www.activequest.com) charges $65,000 to $97,000 for its ePaseo intranet software; there’s no monthly charge. Playa Vista, a 1,000-acre development near Los Angeles, will use the software.
