With California and Texas both experiencing serious droughts over the past several years, water conservation was a hard issue to ignore at the 2015 Solar Decathlon. We visited with team Texas/Germany and the University of California, Davis to hear about their use of rainwater and graywater systems.
The 2015 Solar Decathlon team from Stevens Institute of Technology wanted their project to address the issue of coastal flooding after their personal experiences with the devastation from Hurricane Sandy. However, they didn’t stop there: NexusHaus, a passive, modular home, also addresses water conservation through a system that filters collected rainwater to use as potable water for its residents.
