Mecklenburg County, SC planners are holding a public meeting on August 11th about a proposed rezoning plan for a Pulte Home Corp. project in Steele Creek. The home builder wants to rezone 127 acres in the area, which would allow them to build 550 new single-family homes, 292 apartment units, and up to 80,000 square feet of commercial space.
“This may be one of the most significant rezonings in Steele Creek for some time,” says Dave Wiggins, who runs stelecreekresidents.org, about the plans. “It could set the tone for future development in Steele Creek.”
A larger rezoning request from Crescent Communities and Lincoln Harris is also in the works. The developers plan to construct residential and commercial property between the Catawba River and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
