In order to see where America's college students are going to school, CityLab charted the biggest and best college towns using 2014 enrollment data for about 750 metro and micropolitan areas in the U.S. CityLab's Richard Florida reports on the results of the findings which show that 55.9% of college students go to college in the 52 metros with more than one million people.
As college students track population to a degree, it should be no surprise that the leading large metro for college students is New York:
By sheer volume, New York is the nation’s largest college town with more than one million students. Los Angeles is next with 950,000, and Chicago third with 520,000. But then the connection between students and population shifts around a bit, as the table above shows. Boston is fourth in college students with 346,000 students, but tenth in population.
