Foreclosures and real estate owned (REO) closings declined in July from a year earlier, but remained a drag on the market. Foreclosures and REO closings, taken together, accounted for 36.1% of existing closings, lower than 39.0% a year earlier. The percentage of existing home closings involving foreclosures rose to 16.5% in July from 12.3% a year earlier while REO closings as a percentage of existing home closings sank to 19.5% from 26.6% a year earlier.
