Redfin data illustrates, by and large, that pricier real estate markets come with greater commute times for their respective residents.
An analysis here from Redfin gets into the weeds, comparing home prices to average times for commuters to travel to and from work. One observation from data scientist Taylor Marr, for example, notes that average commute times vary greatly across America, ranging from 41 minutes in Charles County, MD to less than 10 minutes for a handful of other (more rural) counties. Further, Marr observes:
New Jersey as a whole had the longest state average at about 30 minutes, whereas Alaska’s residents commute only 11 minutes on average. New York City’s counties also stood out for having average commute times around 40 minutes.
As they say, "getting there is half the fun." Whether there is home or work.
