The annual U.S. News & World Report "Best Places to Live" rankings of the 100 most-populous metro areas in the United States, ranks perennially as one of our most popular spotlights.

The U.S. News team measures a "best place" based on having a good value, being a desirable place to live, having a strong job market and a high quality of life. The metro areas included in the rankings are evaluated using data from trusted sources like the United States Census Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Labor and U.S. News' own internal resources.

The percent weighting for each index follows the answers from a public survey in which people from across the country voted for what they believed was the most important thing to consider when thinking about moving.
