Redfin released a database of the commute times for different metropolitan areas in America and it contained some surprises. Fortune staffer Anne VanderMey takes a look the database which ranks metros by commutes, and other factors such as city-size and average income.

One of the surprising findings from the database was that the city with the worst commute was Detroit. Additionally, cities such as New York and Los Angeles did not land as high as you'd think:

There are some surprising results. In terms of best commutes, New York City lands at a meager 31, despite its internationally renowned transit system, mainly because high prices force so many people far from the city center and far from subways.
