Ray Ellison Sr., the founder of what was once the largest home building company in Texas, died in October after suffering from Parkinson's disease. Ellison began building in San Antonio in 1949 and grew Ray Ellison Homes through the development of dozens of subdivisions. Over time, he expanded his business to include the largest privately owned utility company in Texas; a development company for apartment complexes, retail shops, and office buildings; mortgage and title companies; and two banks. Ellison sold his company, renamed Rayco, to Los Angeles–based KB Home in 1996.
