Pulte Homes has a 44.1-acre portion of the golf course at the Woodmont Country Club in Tamarac, Fla. under contract, and plans to close on the property and begin new home development in April or May.

Woodmont Country Club had previously received approval to build 152 single-family homes on the site. The golf course is within an existing neighborhood, and only half of its 36 holes are currently open for play. Pulte’s acquisition will include nine of the unused holes, and Brent Baker, president of PulteGroup’s Southeast Florida division, says that Woodmont Country Club will use the proceeds of the land sale to put the remainder of the course back in service.

The new community’s sales center is expected to open this fall, and the homes are expected to be move-in ready in spring or summer of 2018.

Some South Florida golf clubs have struggled with declining membership and the cost of upkeep, leading to more redevelopment of the courses. Pulte Homes is also building homes on part of the Hillcrest Country Club in Hollywood.
