The Kansas community of Marquette has taken a drastic step to try to attract young families back to their dwindling township: They are giving away land to families with kids. The purpose is to bolster their school-age population enough to keep the local school system alive. Since last May, 21 of 80 lots on 50 acres of farmland purchased by the town have been given away. All but one of those lots was taken by families from out of town.
