More than half of new homes (58%) built in 2014 were built within a community or home owner’s association, according to the Census Bureau’s Survey of Construction (SOC), reports Ashok Chaluvadi in the NAHB's Eye On Housing blog.

The Mountain Division led the way:

When analyzed by the 9 census divisions, the highest share was in the Mountain Division (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming) where 76.5% of new homes were in such communities. The New England (Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut) on the other hand, had the least share at 21.8%.
