Hillwood Communities, the residential section of real estate investor Ross Perot Jr.’s Dallas-based Hillwood Development Co., has entered the Houston market with the nearly-completed first phase of the Pomona master-planned community in suburban Manvel, Tex.

Highland Homes, David Weekley Homes, Coventry Homes, Plantation Homes and Trendmaker Homes have built or are building 100 out of a planned 2,000 homes in the 1,000-acre community. 86 of these homes have been sold so far, according to Hillwood Communities’ Houston general manager Russell Bynum. They range in size from 2,200 square feet to almost 5,000 square feet, at prices ranging from the $280,000s to the $600,000s.

“(The oil slump) has affected home sales in all of Houston,” Bynum said, estimating home sales are down 10 to 15 percent across the city. “But we’re very high on our location, sandwiched between the medical center and petrochemical plants in Lake Jackson. We’re well insulated from oil.”

Hillwood has already opened Pomona’s first amenity, a 2,000-square-foot fish camp. A recreation center is set to open in December, which will feature a large playground, two pools, and office and conference space.
