Dezeen's Dan Howarth shares Richard Meier's freshly-unveiled design for a 42-story residential tower on First Avenue in New York.
The black monolithic block marks a departure from the Pritzker Prize-winning architect's signature white palette, and will include 556 apartments. Two-thirds of those units will be available for rent, and one-third will be sold as condominiums.
A terrace will cut into its cuboid form just over halfway up, but other details about the project are yet to be released. Construction has already started on 685 First Avenue, with completion set for 2018.
