A study from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed that while millennials made up only 24% of the U.S. population between 2007 and 2012, they were responsible for 43% of the country's moves. Forbes contributor Neale Godfrey takes a look at this mobile generation, the reason behind their decision to move, and where they are going.

Godfrey notes that millennials tend to live in densely populated areas that offer them constant social connection to the world around them:

“Sixty-two percent [of Millennials] indicate they prefer to live in the type of mixed-use communities found in urban centers, where they can be close to shops, restaurants and offices… The markets where Millennials are most highly concentrated reflect their desire to live in more socially conscious, creative environments.” Being in or near a city can offer this type of lifestyle.
