In a recent Builder survey, 90 percent of respondents said they had been victims of theft within the past year. Losses ran from lumber and copper wiring to office supplies and diesel fuel. Of those who reported thefts, 60 percent had been hit more than three times.

Thu, 25 Aug 2011 11:10:04 EST

An official at the NYSE's regulatory arm confirmed that home builders are being scrutinized regarding their compliance with quantitative listing standards. The heightened attention comes in light of the sector's continued and well-publicized struggles.

Tue, 31 Jan 2012 10:05:44 EST

But when 23 percent of the homes were snapped up by single women (including a handful of single moms), the builder knew it was on to something. Security was a big deal for this buyer group, and one of the features that proved most pivotal was that every three-story unit enjoyed direct access from a two-car garage, “specifically from garage to kitchen,” notes Steve Doyle, president of Brookfield Homes' San Diego division.

Wed, 19 Aug 2009 11:28:29 EST

Volume builders abhor complexity. Complexity means problems, and problems lead to work orders, and work orders to increased costs. This is one reason big builders haven't rushed to embrace whole-house control systems that have flowed onto the market in the past several years (well, that and the fact the average home buyer is not exactly clamoring for them).

Mon, 30 Jan 2012 10:02:19 EST
