Today's young home buyers have grown up with technology and they want to be able use it when they buy a house.
One option is smartphones, according to Eric Rucker, KTXL, in Sacramento, Calif. A homeowner he spoke with has a system that can control home security cameras, as well as other features including lights, thermostat and door locks.
Soon, a new Wi-Fi technology could control much more, reports Michelle Ma, University of Washington. Computer scientists at the University have developed gesture-recognition technology, similar to the way the Nintendo Wii game system works, that could be adapted to enable individuals to control home electronics and appliances with a move as simple as the wave of a hand. The technology “WiSee,” is set to showcase this fall at The 19th Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking.
