With the housing market beginning to strengthen, it’s time for builders and associates alike to roll up our sleeves and get back to work.
I don’t know of a better way to prepare for doing business in a more normal housing market than to attend the 2013 International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas from Jan. 22 to 24.
A lot has changed since the onset of the Great Recession, and the show is a great way to get back up to speed on everything that you will need to know to move forward in a significantly altered business environment.
Consistent with the changes in the housing market, we have also made changes to the IBS to ensure that it meets your needs.
We know that time is money; more important, your time is your money. For that reason—and because surveys of both attendees and exhibitors concur—the show has been shortened to three days.
We have also made some changes to our educational programs by trimming back the number of programs to focus on the best of the best. And we are offering programs and content that are better balanced for industry members with varying levels of experience, especially those with more advanced skills.
Our programming also acknowledges that some topics can’t be fully covered in a traditional 90-minute time slot, so there will be some day-long intensive master sessions to address current industry challenges.
As always, the exhibit floor will be the focal point of the 2013 IBS, and our list of exhibitors reads like a “Who’s Who” of the manufacturers and suppliers who provide products to our industry. Again based on feedback from attendees, we are scheduling education programs to allow ample time for visiting the expansive show floor. There will be a 2½-hour midday break between education sessions, and all education programs will end an hour before the show floor closes.
The IBS also provides attendees with superb networking opportunities. From spontaneous get-togethers to events specifically structured to facilitate networking, the Builders’ Show is the ideal place to meet other members of the home building industry whose insight and expertise can help your business grow and prosper.
The New American Home 2013, the 30th in the series, is now under construction in Las Vegas and will showcase cutting-edge green technology, contemporary design, and exciting new products for show attendees.
Online registration for the 2013 IBS opens Sept. 4. We are offering a $100 discount on full registration during the entire month. Expo-only registration is free to NAHB members and $50 for non-members through September. Spouses can get the same registration in all categories for free in September. And as in the past, any NAHB member who is a first-time attendee can get full registration for $125.
I hope you will take advantage of the great deals that are available in September to bring your entire team to the IBS. With the exception of the first-time attendee rate, the cost of all types of registration will increase in October.
The 2013 IBS is going to be great. Please plan on joining us in Las Vegas for the show. You can learn about the show and register to attend at www.BuildersShow.com.
Don’t forget that September is NAHB Associate Member Appreciation Month.
